Priscilla Till Speaks Out on DOJ Release of Emmett Till Investigation Files
WHEN: Tuesday August 26, 2025
ZOOM: 4PM EST 3pm CST
On August 21, 2025, the US Department of Justice released to the public, a 6,500-page federal record pertaining to the August 28, 1955, Emmitt Till lynching. The Civil Rights Cold Case Records Review Board released the records and are maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration.
I am grateful that the United States Department of Justice has decided to release all of their files in the tragic lynching death of my cousin, Emmett Louis Till. Although I still have many serious concerns about justice being done in this case, still, I am thankful, and I am hoping this release of information will be helpful.
In addition, while appreciative of this release of the DOJ Emmett Till files, I must say that I am not happy with the attacks on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties that the Trump administration has been carrying out. This administration has dismantled many protections of civil rights that the Till family holds dear in my state of Mississippi, where I am running for the United States Senate in 2026

Lawyer for Priscilla Till, attorney Malik Shabazz Esq stated: The release of the Emmett Till investigation files is very important to get to the truth of this matter. We will be analyzing them carefully. We further call on the state of Mississippi to follow suit and release all of their files, because this is where the lynchers of Emmett Till were freed with state sanction and cooperation. Furthermore, on the anniversary of his lynching, Mrs. Priscilla Till and Anna Williams call for reinstatement of federal civil rights investigations into the Rankin County Mississippi, and Lexington Mississippi Sheriffs Department and other police departments across America if the Trump administration is serious about healing the wounds of the past and making real steps toward justice in the future.
